Dijon without the mustard.

What a fun day we've had. After a leisurely start today we drove the short distance into Dijon Centre Ville and spent 3 hours wandering the streets and just enjoying a relaxing day.

Dijon is a very pretty city. Each of the 'pretty' cities that we have been to is a little different to the previous. Dijon is a little more like Bordeaux. (no, we haven't been there yet). Janice & I found a brocante (antiques market) and both purchased a few little items of linen. All old & lovely and very cheap. Just as I was walking away from the table I spotted a little brooch of a bird with 'Lyon' in tiny letters across it. The whole thing is less than 1" across and a bit old - I think. 2 euros was a very good price.

After another 1/2 hour of wandering the cobbled streets we coffeed on another market square. This one had lots of clothes and other junk. Another 1/2 hour of wandering and it was time for lunch. We found this lovely big semi-circular 'square' with plenty of cafes and picked our fav. Sitting with the sun shining on my back, little glass of Rose in my hand & eating salad nicoise. Just lovely.

We decided to splash out and ride the Navette (free bus) around the inner city till it was time to meet up back at the bus. Fab. Lots of very interesting roof tiles (see pics later).

A little later we walked the short distance from where the bus was parked to Les Quatre Saidos du Patchwork ( 4 Seasons). Have a look at their website. It's a very pretty shop, but oh so tiny. When all 24 of us were inside it was a tight fit, especially as there was a small workshop on and 5 or 6 other customers called in too.

The owner answered the phone and was heard to say "No joke, a bus load has just turned up, I can't talk now!" She was just delightful. Interesting shop hours Hazel. 2pm - 6pm, Tuesday - Friday. Some interesting fabrics, but not a lot that we won't see at home.

After that we returned to the hotel to unload & relax for a while before visiting the nearby Ikea store. Only a little shopping here, but fun.

Janice & I had dinner in one of the restaurants in the mall. Creme brulee is nearly as good as yours Murray.

Early-ish night tonight. On the road to Lyon tomorrow. Mustard to taste and things to see. Till next time, Lesley & the Tour de Force

  1. Great to read of your escapades. I sure Murray will be pleased that his Creme Brulee is up there with the French. We are thinking about you heaps, especially when we went on our little tour today. Had coffee at Jacks afterwards because the bars were not open at 10am. I am looking forward to seeing more of your pictures and I am sure you have looked on Stu's Facebook to see the pics he's posted there. Watch out for that Mustard. I guess it is not quite like the powdered stuff we used to mix up to go with the Corned Beef. Off to get the kids from school in about an hour. Sort of a bit of normality if you get my drift. Love to all. Col. xoxoxoxoxoxo
